2026 National Architecture Awards Program

We love celebrating the talented professionals shaping our region, we’re proud to shine a light on an outstanding local achievement in architecture.

Local architects Ian Sercombe Architect have received national recognition, with Ian Sercombe and Simon Hayward shortlisted in the 2026 National Architecture Awards Program for their inspiring project Terra Anima.

The project has been acknowledged in two highly regarded categories:

  • Residential Architecture – Houses (New)
  • Sustainable Architecture

Known for their thoughtful, energy-efficient design approach, the team specialises in innovative solutions for residential and small commercial projects. Their work balances form, function and sustainability, creating homes that are both beautifully designed and highly liveable. This national recognition is a reflection of their creativity, technical expertise and ongoing commitment to environmentally responsible design.

A project like Terra Anima is also a true collaboration, and credit must be given to Joss McNamara Building, whose craftsmanship and attention to detail helped bring the architectural vision to life.

Congratulations to everyone involved — it’s fantastic to see local talent recognised on the national stage, and we look forward to watching what comes next.

Why Good Architecture Matters Locally

Projects like Terra Anima highlight a growing shift in the way homes are being designed and built across our region. Buyers and homeowners are increasingly valuing thoughtful layouts, energy efficiency and sustainable materials — not just for environmental reasons, but for long-term comfort, liveability and running costs.

Well-designed homes often age better, perform better and hold their appeal in changing market conditions. Features such as passive solar design, natural ventilation and considered use of space can make a real difference to how a home feels day-to-day, particularly in our coastal climate.

It’s encouraging to see local professionals leading this conversation and setting benchmarks that influence future residential design across the Mid-North Coast.
